The essay intends to analyse the transnational policies taken by the Union of Italian Women (Udi) and the Italian Women’s Center (Cif) in the years between 1956 and 1966, a decade that introduces gradual forms of cooperation aimed at promoting the status of women in societies under- going significant transformations. In the sign of a gradual reconciliation locally experienced by the variegated scenario of women’s associations, within this chronological range a renewed conversation on peace, women’s rights, and gender equality issues takes place, as well as the very first steps towards that process of empowerment promoted on a global scale by the UN in the following decade.
Keywords: local-global, Cold War, international cooperation, women’s associations, women’s emancipation, UN
