Drawing from the existing literature and efficacy studies, this review advances suggestions for good clinical practice in the psychological treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD). The disorder and the formulation of its diagnosis are defined according to the current model and to the model under development. Epidemiological data show that OCPD is one of the most common personality disorders. Furthermore, data on the co-occurrence of OCPD with other disorders highlight a strong interaction between OCPD and the other personality disorders and several symptomatic conditions. Such complexity makes differential diagnosis difficult and leads to an underestimation of the OCPD. In addition, data showing the negative impact of OCPD on social functioninge, especially when associated with mood disorders, point out the importance of timely recognising and diagnosing OCPD. Finally, we report on studies investigating the efficacy of psychotherapy for OCPD, showing that cognitive-based psychotherapies are the most effective for OCPD.At present, there is a lack of recommendations for good clinical practice from the World Health Organisation and, to our knowledge, from the literature. Therefore, the review will conclude with the formulation of these suggestions in accordance with the directions of the data presented in each section.
