The article aims at analyzing the relationship between politics and culture in It-aly during 1992, an year which marked a fundamental turning point in postwar Italian political history. Firstly, the essay - based on a variety of sources (parties’ documents, posters, electoral programs, party press, polls, newspapers) - takes into consideration how the main Italian political parties - Christian Democratic Party (Democrazia Cristiana), Italian Socialist Party (Partito socialista), Democratic Par-ty of the Left (Partito democratico della sinistra) and Italian Social Movement-National Right (Movimento sociale italiano-Destra nazionale) - imagined the fu-ture before the 5-6 April national elections. Secondly, it examines how the parties presented the future to voters during the electoral campaign. Finally, the author elaborates some conclusive remarks about the 1992 political debate and the fu-ture course of Italian politics.
