The aim of the paper is to investigate the complex relationship between online tales and top down and/or bottom up authentication processes regarding food traditions, so to assess how diverse kinds of narratives can contribute to the development of a place awareness, including food heritage. The study analyses the virtual showing of the event ‘Borgo diVino in Tour’, promoted by the association ‘I Borghi più Belli d’Italia’, and suggests some preliminary insights for the development of a community-oriented and attractive narrative. Such narrative is intended to put into evidence traditional food chain and the related protagonists, so to allow experiential tourists meet local identity through its food expressions and to grasp the genius loci through the consumption of local products.
