Hubert Jedin was the first president of the Italian-German Historical Institute in Trento (ISIG). Established in 1973 by the will of Paolo Prodi, recently proclaimed rector of the University of Trento, and thanks to the support of the President of the Province of Trento, as well as president of the Istituto Trentino di Cultura, Bruno Kessler, the new institute aimed to be a center promoting historical studies on the links between the German and Italian worlds. Prodi, ISIG’s first director, relied from the first steps of the new institute on the help of his mentor Hubert Jedin, whom he later also wanted at the head of the Scientific Committee. Jedin’s presidency was not only honorary, but in the early years of ISIG’s life he was active and instrumental both in determining the institute’s program and in providing research and political support to the director.
