The article analyzes the case of Brazilian ethnic churches in the US migratory context. The term ethnic churches is used to refer to Catholic parishes and evangelical churches formed by Brazilian immigrants. The choice of this type of religious reality is due to the fact that, among these Brazilian immigrants, Catholics and evangelicals are the vast majority. This article aims to: point out the importance of Brazilian ethnic communities for immigration to the USA; show how Brazilian ethnic churches are embedded in and part of the broader context of Brazilian immigration to the United States; develop the thesis according to which Brazilian immigrants live their experience in the United States starting from different realities, such as those relating to work, family, community, identity issues; expose how these different realities interconnect with each other and with the experiences lived through belonging to an ethnic church.
Keywords: international migration; ethnic churches; brazilian migration; religion; transnationalization.
