The promotion of river tourism as a new form of slow tourism is receiving considerable interest. For the purposes of drafting the Tourist Port Plan of the Veneto Region, some studies have been implemented, helpful for the construction of a tourist offer linked to the waterways. Among these, we present here the results of a mapping of local resources and the creation of a “tourism potential index” built on georeferenced data, analyzing its effectiveness and limits as a tool for new tourism policies.
Keywords: river tourism; GIS; tourism development.
