Clinical experimentation is a crucial activity through which the Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria delle Marche (AOU delle Marche) achieves its mission and establishes itself as a regional and national reference centre. During the three-year period from 2022 to 2024, 569 experimental studies were conducted, of which 39% were ‘profit’ and 61% were ‘no profit’, reflecting a growing trend. The most involved disciplines include oncology, haematology, and cardiology, although the inclination for research extends across various medical and surgical fields. Conducting research necessitates the participation of specialised and interdisciplinary personnel, with a crucial role played by the Hospital Pharmacy in managing experimental drugs and devices, for which specific software has been developed.Despite the positive outcomes, administrative and bureaucratic challenges persist, primarily related to the shortage of dedicated support staff due to regulatory constraints on personnel costs. The strategic objective is to strengthen no-profit research and establish a pool of dedicated healthcare and support human resources.
