In this article, the authors focus on the political and cultural assumptions inherent in the Life Project, and analyse the related pedagogical issues. If we move away from framing the Life Project as a technical, bureaucratic and administrative tool, and instead recognise it as a means of authentically activating processes of self-determination and self-realisation for independent living, it becomes clear that it cannot be placed, in Gestalt sense, against a background of meaning that has only pedagogical coordinates, but also social, cultural and political ones. After a preface in which they address the legacy of the current debate stemming from the struggles of movements for the emancipation, empowerment, and self-determination of disabled people, the authors turn their attention to some highly relevant and topical educational issues, such as stigma, hate speech, and sentimental education.
