This paper offers a concise reflection on the relationship between politics and research through the lens of studies on the diffused city. Introduced by Indovina in 1990, the concept still raises open questions. Originating from investigations of Veneto’s productive territories during a phase of major renewal in Italian Marxist thought, the notion has since been interpreted within diverse frameworks – from phenomenological to structuralist – eventually merging with the pop aesthetics of the 1990s. Today, the diffused city stands as a plastic expression of broader social and cultural destructuring.

Keywords: urban sprawl; contemporary city; DAEST.
