From their two very different approaches, Nancy McWilliams and Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb dialogue on the concept of therapeutic presence. What are seen as polar possibilities in the setting, such as neutral and creative experimental attitudes, become similar concepts in practice in the light of their therapeutic dedication, curiosity and respect. The mutual respect that the reader can feel between the lines of this dialogue mirror the dignity that every approach has in its development and faith to its proper epistemology. A shared description of Gestalt therapy’s basic principles is also an important aspect of this work. The two practitioners go through basic concepts of their methods, such as the role of the therapeutic presence and the aim of psychotherapy. They also dialogue on clinical evidence in contemporary society and share their concerns about difficulties in primary relationships.
