The paper underlines new and emergent forms of risks that characterized the lives of organizational players and that transform their professional trajectors and experiences. The paper presents at first a theoretical interpretation of sustainability as a concept able to explain the meaning of professional safety by considering the complexity of physical, psychological and social dimensions. The current professional and organizational scenarios are characterized by uncertainty and turbolence that ask people to activate new ways for responding and managing the organizational complexity. Working within contexts in which processes and operational tasks are precarious and contingent and rapidly change, expand the concept of safety, quality of organizational life and sustainability of professional processes. In the second part, the contribution presents three vignettes that describe various situations in which organizations deal with the construction of professional sustainability. In these descriptions the authors use a new conception of risk that manifests itself as a lens through which is possible to reinterpret professional practices and create new relationships between organizational players and their professional life. In the third section the paper underlines some paradoxs that renard the possibility to consider signals of discomfort and difficulty inside a research perspective able to analyze organizational practices and processes and promote realistic, authentic and positive changes.
