Johann van der Sandt completed his formal education at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and further refined his expertise in choral conducting at the Institute for Choral Conductor Training in Gorinchem, Netherlands. Throughout his career, he has excelled as a composer, conductor, arranger, and adjudicator at national and international levels. Johann has conducted various choirs, from children's and youth ensembles to student and adult choirs. Currently, he serves as a full professor of musicology at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy. Before this, he was a Professor of Choral Conducting at the University of Pretoria and worked as the conductor and music director at the renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir School in South Africa. In addition to his academic and professional work, Johann conducts several ensembles, including the Brummnet Male Choir, the South Tyrolean Provincial Youth Choir, and unibzVoices, the official choir of the University of Bolzano. He also serves as the director of Lasido, an organisation dedicated to promoting musical education for children through singing.
