The authors put forward an interpretation of Clausewitz’s theory as based on two different logical attitudes: one belongs to classical logic, the other to non-classical logic. This last trait is revealed by some sentences which contain a double negation, which are different from the corresponding affirmative ones. His most famous sentence: "war is nothing but the continuation of war through other means" is a case in point. In the article many sentences of this kind are taken up and the authors show how only making reference to them Clausewitz’s theory may be faithfully reconstructed. Clausewitz double logical attitude (classical and non classical) reveals a very deep level of understanding of the theme of war and justifies the variety of interpretations put forward so far.
