Differently from the normative approach translated into the lottery paradigm, to better understand the naturalistic decision making, the attention should be focused on the information search process through which the individual searches and acquires data to modify the initial condition of uncertainty and the subjective valuation of the probability related to the gain. The present research aims to explore the process of active information search at the basis of individual’s decision making and to analyse the main information categories used by individuals in uncertainty condition. For this purpose two studies have been conducted. In Study 1 participants have been presented with three different decisional scenarios and instructed to think aloud during their reasoning. From the content analysis the relational information (responsibility sharing and trust) emerged to be relevant for participants’ decision - in addition to probabilistic and economical data and to Risk Defusing Operators. In Study 2 the valence of information provided to decision-maker has been actively manipulated (positive vs. negative). The results indicate that the relational pieces of information gain particular relevance in negative condition, that is to say when the other data suggest an adverse outcome.
