This work is aimed to study the tourist behaviour from the restorative environment perspective. What are the location characteristics most appreciated by the tourists that make the vacation a restorative experience? To this aim some tourists, Italian and foreign, have been asked to single out the most important characteristic of the place they were on vacation. The fit between environmental offers and personal interests and inclinations (compatibility) and a good space organization (coherence) turned out to be the two most important characteristics, independently of age and origin.
