This paper explores the complexity of therapeutic change in current psycnoanalytic theory. Over the years a greeat many theoretical models have been developed within the field of psycoanalysis, each of which has tended to emphasise a specific set of therapeutic factors. Here the authores focus on three of these factores: the relationship inside the psycoanalytic couple; the process of mentalization, particularly in personality disorders; identification linked to the functioning of procedural memory and affective regulation. A clinical case study will be described. Key Words: Evolutionism, Therapeutic Factors; Identificazion; Procedural Memory; Mentalization.
