This article criticizes the tendency of the last decades’ psychoanalysis of depriving the Oedipal configuration of its meaning. It re-attests the importance - confirmed by the recent cultural anthropology - of the Oedipal configuration as a universal psychosocial "construction". It also underlines, both from the theoretical and the clinical point of view, its various aspects, as evidenced by the latest authors, the concepts concerning the primary or pre-oedipal triangulation, and the connections between the latter and the Oedipal triangulation. Finally, the Author suggests from a clinical point of view four levels or configurations of the thirdness concerning the therapeutic situations, from neurotic disorders to the psychotic ones. As far the latter, the "Transitional Nucleus of Self" is conceptualised as the "Third" par excellence.
