The subject of the following paper are the legal conditions of the food quality productions development in Poland. This kind of agri-food productions is very important for the European agriculture. It is consider by the European Commission as the major strengh of European farmers in an increasingly competitive world. On the second hand it contribute to an economic, social and environmentally sustainable rural development. In the first part, the paper deals with the "quality" definition. There are analized the quality notions adopted by the recent Green Paper on Agricultural Product Quality. Some critic remarks are made. There are also the European and national "food quality schemes" presented. The second part of the paper presents the various Polish initatives directed towards the promotion of the food quality productions. It presents also the legal barriers which concern: the legal qualification of the food processing activity, the fiscal norms and the direct sale regolations. There is made a comparition with the similar italian regolations. In conclusion the author of the paper finds the Polish legislator not enough involved in the creating of the appropriate legal context needed for the food quality productions development.
