The present paper investigates the link existing between the destination positioning and performance of hotel businesses, measured using daily values of occupancy and prices. The research issue in the paper reflects on the importance that city strategy plays in defining seasonality patterns. The research is based on daily values of occupancy and prices of a sample of 29 hotel firms, localised in Milan and operating in the 4 star category. The Milan Fair calendars are also given, indicating the name of the event for every trade fair day, for the years 2006-2008. It was possible to construct a database composed of more then 30 thousand observations. Empirical evidences show the relevance of exhibition portfolio for the city. Trade fair events are able to originate a positive gap on the revenue per available room.
