The report deals with urban sustainability. After noting the emergence of the concept of sustainability in the international debate and the subsequent need for operationalized through the identification of indicators, is now shown that these have specific characteristics that set them apart from the indicators used in any social science research, not just the quantity, but what possessed the basic requirements. The report therefore focuses on the city, trying to identify the characteristics that research on sustainability - taking care of the city, rather than other socio-spatial configurations - should possess. It concludes by reviewing some important social indicators of urban sustainability, here grouped according to a) indicators related to needs "primary" of citizens, b) indicators for participatory political needs and c) indicators for the psychological needs of various types.
