The politicization of ethnic and cultural identity, the creation of a mythomoteur for the definition of a social group based on a dichotomic posture towers the "Other", the rivalry for a same territory have always been powerful forces within history, in particular after the rise of the "national state" pattern in Europe. Hence, the project of a series of Storia Urbana numbers, which - respecting the tradition of the Journal - should favour a multidisciplinary analysis, combining different topics, scientific subjects and methodologies; the main aim is to study the complex relations amongst Territory, Power, traditional Authorities and Identity. Moving from a historical-political perspective, and favouring a comparative approach, different numbers of the Journal will study some contemporary cases of particular importance - not only related to the dimension of conflict - such as urban ethno-political confrontation, tensions in Iraq, the case of Iran, starting from the current number on Divided Cities.
