The aim of this article is to analyse the changes which occurred in the model adjustment of the local production system in the industrial district of Thiene after the political change in local government. The first paragraph underlines the importance of the political territorial subculture for the economic development of small and medium companies in the industrial district, while the second focuses on the process of erosion of the subculture and the growth of the Lega Nord. The political territorial subculture strengthens trust and also influences industrial relations and the role of local government. The characteristics of the Veneto model and its recent changes are then reconstructed, both at a regional and local level. The fourth section, finally, focuses on a case study. By in-depth interviews with key stakeholders and politicians, its shows how the local model of regulation essentially maintains a continuity with previous economic and social policies. In this framework, attention has been drawn not only to the role of community, but also to business associations, industrial relations, and public policies.
