The self-management experiences, or in other words, the democratic management and autonomous participation of workers in the organization of labour and production, have an ancient history in Brazil. However, those experiences were marginal to the Brazilian social development and the labour movement during the 20th Century. They (re)appeared in the last decades, in the context of the deep changes that took place in the Brazilian society, especially the changes in the labour structure and in the economic model of development and production as well as the intense transformation of the Brazilian civil society with the strengthening of the social movements and the emergence of new players in the public arena. This article attempts to analyze the conditions that allowed the reappearance of self-management experiences in Brazil and presents the recent history of these experiences and the relevance it has in the Brazilian labour.
