The author examines the relationship between Marcuse’s thought and the Freudian theory as assumed by the German philosopher. Today the problems that Marcuse put to the society in his times and to psychoanalysis, are actually still alive. The disputableness of Freudian thought, as Marcuse saw it, has to be referred to the insufficient development of that thought and not to his distortions, which exist too. The contribution to Freudian theory given by Melanie Klein, Wilfred Bion and Jacques Lacan permits to clarify the theoretic practicability of Marcuse’s thought.
