We will analyze the phenomenon of Urban Agriculture (UA). We will define the concept, explaining how it is part of the development policies and of the Brazilian political agenda in the fight against hunger and for food security. The UA has been experiencing a rediscovery by the academic community following the United Nations projections of an increasingly urban world. However, it does not bring anything new, but it simply puts differently together, compared to more recent past, elements that individually belong to a more distant past (Ingersoll et al., 2007), rescuing a form of welfare, already used in other times of crisis.
