Boundaries of gender and gender of boundaries: postmodern genealogies. The term "gender" has always been endowed with a multiplicity of historical meanings. This short essay investigates the semantic boundaries of "gender" not only in relation to traditional dichotomies (sex/gender; masculine/feminine; etc.), but also in relation to a cluster of concepts recently produced by disciplines and practices, driven by different knowledge imperatives. Emancipatory practices and deconstructive epistemologies produce discourses with radically different teleologies: i.e., the realization of political projects, and/or the deconstruction of gender representation. Theories and practices co-exist in our contemporary world, and they impact our perception of identity and sexuality.

Keywords: Gender, sexuality, identity, performativity, intersectionality, genealogies, woman/women.
