Psychoanalysis, since its foundation, has given much importance to literature and has influenced literary criticism. From Freud’s approach to Jung’s one, art and creative process have been analyzed and discussed during the twentieth century. The cases of Svevo and Saba, Schnitzler, Joyce and Breton, the distrust that both Freud and Jung manifested towards the artistic avanguard, the narration as a means of knowledge.
