This article deals with the question of knowledge production in contemporary urban planning by drawing attention to the case of commercial urban spaces linked to international migrations. Grounding on a series of ethnographic encounters, the article puts together both the (dominant) discourse on "ethnic entrepreneurship" and the knowledge provided from the field, as a way to identify some of the trasformations urban planning can undertake in the "city of difference".
