My paper focuses on a theme seldom treated by historians of the Italian jewry, who mostly concentrate on their life in the ghettoes and forget their origins as a migrant group. In fact the Jews who settled in Italy did so as a result of several migratory movements, starting in the Roman age and repeating themselves in the following centuries. This original experience and the cultural tradition it generated go far to explain their persistent mobility and their attitude to transregional and transnational migration.
Keywords: Diaspora, migrations, transnationalism, discrimination, anti-Semitism.
