The author invites us to reflect on the survival of psychoanalysis in the twenty-first century, in response to the resistance that still causes, through criticism and attempts to make changes, thus trying to adapt to the demand of our times. Circumstantial changes and general points of view are confused with the unalterable basic foundations of the unconscious. We risk giving in to resistance by trying to introduce modifications - in fact, already proposed by Jung in 1910 and rejected by Freud - in order to make it more acceptable to the general public. Certainly it is possible, but it would no longer be psychoanalysis, and there is no need to transform it into one of the many existing psychotherapies. We psychoanalysts are our own instrument of work; careful attention to our training therefore remains a top priority.
Keywords: Setting, abstinence, resistances, current, construction.
