The essay reflects critically on the rise of Emmanuel Macron to the presidency of the French Republic, who in a few months promoted a complex and articulated reform of the Code du Travail. The first part observes the shift of regulatory power on company level collective agreements, strengthened vis-à-vis both sectoral collective agreements and the individual contract of employment. The second part is dedicated to the changes introduced to the representative bodies at company level. The third part emphasizes the extension of the margin of discretion granted to the employer to impose plans to safeguard employment and simplified regimes for the termination of the employment relationship
