Six scholars, representing different approaches and specializations, have taken part in the following debate about the recent Storia mondiale dell’Italia: two of them are mediaevalists (Sofia Boesch Gajano and E. Igor Mineo), two are students of early modern history (Vittorio Beonio Brocchieri and Angelo Torre) and two deal with contemporary history (Fulvio Cammarano and Marcello Flores). No constraints or limits were imposed on them: so some felt free to analyse particular aspects and themes, while others examined the editorial and scientific plan of the volume as a whole, and others yet tried to sketch a broader historical background.

Keywords: World history, Italy, historiography.
