The archaeological excavations carried out in the area of the castle of Modica allowed us to find out some ancient structures of Norman age, while the ceramic finds have also revealed the other phases from the XIIIth century A.D. to the most recent periods. Coated ceramics have been found in the levels related to the XVth century phase. Here among the archaeological finds, it has been found the first Sicilian majolica. These finds testify the great changes occurred in the XVth century Sicilian society.
