Between the end of the Twenties and the beginning of the Thirties, Ester Lombardo published her two travel journals: Luci del Nord (Lights of the North, 1928) and L’Ellade nella Grecia Moderna (The Hellas in the Modern Greece, 1931). In those days, the travelling women began to be a literary topic, and many women began to write down their travel experience, bringing novelty to the travel literature. The travels of the unmarried, young, curious and dynamical journalist fit into this context and were both a reflection of the elite tourism in the late industrial era and a consequence of the commercial, ideological and cultural work of the fascist regime.
