The sociology of complexity helps to look at phenomena typical of post-modernity, in which the planetary dimension of the economy and financial markets and a growing interconnection via the web, transform the condition of man, "forced" to deal with non-deterministically predictable multi-causes, non-linear effects emerging from processes of self-organization, in a world that is ever wider and accelerated by advances in scientific knowledge. Healthcare is moving towards an increasingly technological and data-driven approach. The Author highlights that if we are dealing with intensive technologies, which incorporate human beings’ role and choices, for which being able to predict does not necessarily coincide with being able to control, the role of the manager in the Healthcare system becomes that of facilitator of flexible processes, capable of adapt to an uncertain and changing environment, also acquiring new skills profiles capable of linking expert knowledge.
Keywords: complexity, management, uncertainty, data-driven, non-linearity, sociology.
