The aim of the article is to analyse, by means of spatial analysis techniques, typical of Gis (Geographic Information System), the activity of the city patrols and the bourgeois patrols, police forces that ensured order and tranquility in Marseille during 1789. In addition to providing an overview of the maintenance of public order at the outbreak of the Revolution in the phocéen city, the study aims to assess and compare, through the use of archival and cartographic sources, the responsiveness, the effi ciency and the impact of these urban militias, providing valuable and innovative keys to interpretation.
