The set of analyzed and published in this catalogue allows to describe some poorly studied but peculiar elements of eastern Sicily, land of rural villages, large estates, vineyards; it helps to analyze its topography, territory organization, varied landscape, and to delineate the social formation, base of its originality and dynamism: a society animated by country knights and "borgesi" rich entrepreneurs.
