The phenomenon of changing street names in accordance with recent anti-Risorgimento revisionism has arrived in Sardinia. This development, parallel to the rise of mainland neo-Bourbonism, explains the nascent local desire to change the names of streets dedicated to the Savoy dynasty and to remove some monuments that commemorate the historical role played by the family in the island’s history. Alongside this development, a distorted myth of the Sardinian Kingdom has emerged without any supporting documentary evidence. In this way medieval autonomy is exhumed and mythologized, while the fusion with Savoy-ard Piedmont, and even national unity itself, are demonized as if it were a colonial con-quest.
