This essay opens by retracing the main historical-evolutionary phases of the relationship between technological innovation and work, typified in the four industrial revolutions, trying to grasp the meaning and ways in which technology touches our societies and affects their articulation in order to outline the future. models in which Industry 5.0 and Society 5.0 will be integrated. Certain of the transformative scope of a Polanyian character (Seghezzi, 2017) of the period passage we are going through, since aware of the changes that new technologies and the culture that governs them will bring to the essence of capitalism in the coming years and decades, the risk of identifying, in a deterministic and reductive way (Negrelli and Pacetti, 2018), the fourth industrial revolution solely as a natural evolution of trends already underway during the long phase of industrial society or even as a new technological paradigm. This hermeneutic gaze, if it remains fixed on this single line or dimension, does not allow us to grasp the elements of rupture on the anthropological, social, economic and ethical-cultural levels that this emerging phenomenon is highlighting and consequently does not allow to set up lines of intervention and government up to today's and future challenges (Zamagni, 2017).
Keywords: Technological innovation; technological evolution; industrial revolutions; Industry 4.0; Industry 5.0; Society 5.0; hermeneutics; epistemology; anthropology; ethics and technology.
