Rav Di Porto argues that in the Jewish Diaspora the concept of «separatezza del- l’olio» (the immiscibility of water and oil) was the worldview that allowed them to survive in the midst of an often-hostile majority people. The study intends to frame the Jewish community residential choice made throughout time following the four ghetto liberations that occurred in Ferrara in the nineteenth century. It focuses above all on the final period of the parable of freedom, from the Unification of Italy to 1943, and it examines the option adopted individually within the Jewish community. This analysis cannot fail to take into account the level of emancipation and assimilation: the aim is to identify the extent and the urban definition of intra-urban migration from the former ghetto, as well as underlying motivations, such as mixed marriages, political and pro- fessional position, and economic and cultural class.
Keywords: End of the Ferrara’s Jewish Ghetto, Jewish Intra-Urban Migration, Jewish Residential Policy.
