This paper reflects on the economic, social and environmental challenges that trade unions face nowadays. These means for trade unions to look to the margins of their traditional field of action and to measure themselves with new discourses, practices and alliances. However, it is precisely in contexts such as digital platforms, housing policies or industrial crisis, where trade unions are pushed to intertwin new actors and experiment new practices, that the most promising directions for organisation renewal emerge. Rather than seeking new formulas fostering a “2.0 union”, what seems necessary is, therefore, to translate these experiments into organisational learning, a field where difficulties remain. The research aims to answer the following questions: in which contexts novel forms of alliance and action are being tested? What are the potentials and limits of these experimental approaches? How can these experiences contribute to organisational learning for unions fostering a renovation of the industrial relations system?
