The article addresses the topic of Eating Disorders (ED) in the “Western world”, highlighting the complex intertwining of culture and food through a socio-anthropological analysis of the cultural frame-works involved in this field. The research, which is based on the anthropological-interpretive approach, sheds light on some of the complex cultural, social and sym-bolic dynamics involved in shaping people’s relationships with food, through indepth analysis on the one hand of issues that have emerged in the literature, and on the other through a series of semi-structured interviews with male and female professionals engaged in the care of people with Eating Disorders. The authors explore the themes of hope and repair, starting with the role they play for both patients and their families, and other key con-cepts, including that of the re-mediation, the tolerance for uncertainty, the desire and the trust, which are fundamental, in the interpretation of cultural frames, to pathways to healing.
