The Hague Conference on Private International Law has been the first international actor to address the issue of the so-called limping parentage situations from the perspective of private international law. More precisely, a Group of Experts from twenty-four Member States of the Conference was established with the task of considering the feasibility of working on international private law issues relating to the status of children, including issues arising from surrogacy agreements characterized by elements of internationality. This paper aims to outline the outcomes achieved by the Group of Experts and to consider them also in light of the recent EU Commission’s proposal of regulation.
