The contribution aims to return to the question of the distribution of “land” in Norman Sicily. An issue that, first addressed in a systematic way by Illuminato Peri and Salvatore Tramontana, has, however, run aground on the positions of the two Sicilian scholars, which matured in the mid-twentieth century. It was fundamentally the absence of new documentary discoveries that prevented historians from being able to reflect further on the subject of the Hauteville’s distribution of island territory in favor of their faithful. This essay, therefore, moving from the analysis of two unpublished parchments (1158-1166), found with-in the tabulary of the Abbey of Santa Maria de Latinis in Agira, intends to provide a contribution on this side, dwelling, in particular, on the events of Scicli. From the examination of the unpublished diplomas, it was, thus, possible not only to identify the lord of the Iblean fortified settlement, but also to reflect on the dynamics of rooting in the Island of exponents of the nobility of the Mezzogiorno of Italy as well as on the relations between the aristocracy and the Palestinian abbey.
