After an introduction by Paolo Migone, a paper that Pier Francesco Galli, in collaboration with Berthold Rothschild, presented at a meeting organized by the Zurich Psychoanalytic Seminar (Psychoanalytisches Seminar Zürich [PSZ]) on May 30-June 1, 1986, is published. This meeting was entitled “Institutionalization/Deinstitutionalization: On the History and Present of the Psychoanalytic Left”. Among the issues discussed by Galli there are the misunderstandings of the theory of psychoanalytic technique, the problems of the so-called psychoanalytic “orthodoxy”, psychiatric diagnosis, and the critical issues of training in psychoanalytic institutions.
