The author undertakes a historical-critical exploration of aesthetic experience, starting with the work of art, which constitutes the meeting ground between creator and consumer. In this endeavor, she interweaves the classical studies by art historians and critics with the reflections of psychoanalysts who have investigated the origins of the “sense of beauty,” to understand whether there is an innate ability to perceive beauty and ugliness and how the emotional element correlates with the cognitive element. Comparing the cognitive approach with the deductions of neuroaesthetics, she finally proposes her own psychoanalytic model for reinterpreting art.
Keywords: art, creation, enjoyment, aesthetic experience, neuroaesthetics.
