Urban research grows up in Chicago in the last decade of the nineteenth century outside the university, practiced by women sociologists, social workers, social reformers, and, a few years later, in the academy, mainly through the Albion Small’s efforts. Those beginnings and that research activity, long silenced, grow up long before Robert Park's urban analysis (1915), somewhat diminishing what is generally attributed only to the Chicago School of sociology
