In this study we describe the results of a survey on a sample of Italian and South American nurses registered at the IPASVI Nursing Board in Rome. This study was jointly supported by the Centre of Excellence for Nursing Scholarship in Rome, the Transcultural Nursing Association in Italy, and by the Centre for Advanced Studies on the Humanisation of Care and Social Health of the University of Bologna (Branch of Forlì). We included nurses working in different health sectors across the territory of Rome and asked them to reflect on the processes of healthcare and integration of the health professionals who work in a multicultural society. With an increasingly heterogeneous population, both in terms of health professionals working within the health system and of citizens seeking healthcare services, nurses should be able to design and provide culturally appropriate services and care.
Keywords: Transcultural nursing, south-american nurses, italian nurses, cultural competence, team-work, integration
