Siamo circondati da fenomeni complessi che si manifestano nello spazio geografico: disponiamo di tecnologia e di un diluvio di dati, ma soprattutto di teoria, concetti e strumenti per condurre analisi spaziali affidabili, capaci di contribuire alla comprensione dei fenomeni e alla gestione del territorio. L’analisi spaziale è una parte qualificante della moderna geografia quantitativa e continua a stimolare sviluppi della statistica che affrontino gli effetti dei processi e dai dati spaziali: questo libro vuole presentare, discutere, rendere più accessibile questa disciplina ancora troppo poco nota.

This volume sparks from an initial interdisciplinary study published in 2018, to describe the “5 facets” of meat sustainability: nutrition, environmental impacts and the application of the circular economy to livestock and industry, food safety and animal welfare, the economic aspects of supply chains and the fight against food waste. Five years later, a revision by the authors has permitted the publication of this new text, which delves deeper and elucidates the significant recent scientific and technological innovations most recently emerged.

From the mid-1980s, meat consumption in Italy and the western world have stabilised and, in the face of a well-established food security, we have witnessed a changed sensitivity for ethical issues, such as animal welfare and environmental impacts of farms. Analysing the sustainability of meat and cured meats means studying in the most objective way possible different topics concerning both the consumer and the livestock production. This volume presents an interdisciplinary study to describe the “5 faces” of meat sustainability: nutrition, environmental impacts and the circular economy applied to farms and industry, food security and animal welfare, the economic aspects of supply chains and the fight against food waste.

Questo volume analizza il rapporto fra design (gli strumenti offerti dall’approccio dello Human-Centred Design, dell’Interaction Design e della User Experience) e la complessa area della Human-Robot Interaction (la robotica sociale per l’assistenza). L’obiettivo della ricerca è di “abbreviare le distanze” fra le due aree scientifiche del design e della robotica, facendole convergere al fine di progettare robot assistivi e sociali realmente accettati e adatti alle specifiche necessità delle persone.

Le città contemporanee rappresentano osservatori privilegiati per analizzare il rapporto tra esseri umani e natura, specialmente in relazione alle sfide poste dal mutamento climatico. Nelle città europee più attive nella sperimentazione, gli Urban Living Labs (ULLs) dedicati alle soluzioni basate sulla natura, stanno acquisendo importanza nelle politiche di gestione del verde e in quelle di mitigazione e adattamento climatico. Questo volume analizza l’esperienza dell’ULL del progetto europeo proGIreg (productive Green Infrastructure for post-industrial urban regeneration) a Torino.

The book explores the relationship between time and the design of spaces. The temporal dimension of spaces is a horizon that has yet to be strongly explored. In the future it is increasingly likely that it will be the forms of time, rather than those of space, that will undergo the most interesting transformations. The essays explore time: as measurements, adaptations/compositions, memories, machines and technologies, identities, narratives, sensitivities in an increasingly globalized and wrapped world.

Extended store has been a work of mapping the phenomena of digitalization that effects spaces and above all the world of retail. Shops will not disappear in the 21st century, but they will have to change (if they have not already done so) to survive. They will have to evolve by integrating technological solutions that are not only back-end (as they have done so far), but front-end, and therefore available to customers in the shop as in the cases reported in the book.
